ACT nomination for the 190 and 491 skilled visas
Canberra is our home ground. If you're aiming to live and work in the ACT, nomination by the ACT Government can be your pathway to a Subclass 190 (permanent) or 491 (regional provisional) skilled visa. We guide you through the ACT Matrix, eligibility, and the whole process.
What is ACT nomination?
The Subclass 190 and 491 visas are points-tested skilled visas that require nomination by a state or territory. The ACT runs its own selection system, the Canberra Matrix, which ranks candidates on factors such as your connection to Canberra, work in the ACT, English, qualifications and family ties. Meeting the minimum points is only the start; nomination is competitive and depends on your Matrix ranking and current ACT priorities.
A Subclass 190 leads to permanent residence. A Subclass 491 is a regional provisional visa (up to 5 years) that can lead to permanent residence through the Subclass 191, once you meet the residence and income requirements.
Who is generally eligible?
Every case is assessed individually, but ACT nomination generally requires that you:
- Are under 45 at the time of invitation
- Have a positive skills assessment in an eligible occupation
- Meet the points test for the visa
- Have competent English (higher scores strengthen your Matrix)
- Can show a genuine commitment to living in the ACT
- Meet the specific ACT Matrix and nomination criteria current at the time
Requirements and occupation lists change regularly. We confirm the current criteria for your occupation at the time you apply.
